HOW TO READ THIS PAGE

Match the area, time and kind of information.

Choose one of the four areas above. Each combines particular forecast points, sea zones or measuring stations; it is not a report for every nearby lake, launch or part of the Gulf. The scope line explains the selected coverage.

Match the place and the hours you need.
Read the forecast periods for the journey out, time on the water and return. A town forecast describes the land area; a marine forecast covers a named sea zone. For example, the Many forecast is regional weather, not a measurement of waves or lake level at a Toledo Bend launch.
Tell a prediction from a measurement.
A forecast estimates what may happen. A station observation records a measurement already taken. A tide prediction estimates coastal water height; it is not a reading of the water right now. The panels label these separately so you can compare the same kind of information.
Check when the source made the record.
Read the forecast issue time or observation time alongside the last successful retrieval. For example, fetching a record at 10 a.m. does not turn an 8 a.m. reading into a 10 a.m. measurement. “Older data” or an unavailable feed leaves a gap; use its official source link to continue the check.

Read the warning sections as well as the headline numbers. An empty alert list means no alert was returned for its point or zone; it does not establish conditions along a whole route. Open “More detail from each source” for the underlying forecast periods, readings and retrieval times.

Weather and water terms used in the panels
Wind and waves
Wind direction names where the wind comes from. A gust is a brief stronger wind. kt means knots, or nautical miles per hour. “Seas” describes waves; wave period is the time between waves, usually in seconds. Read the height and period together in the named marine forecast.
Water height and depth
A river gauge measures water height at one location, called stage. Coastal tide predictions and measured levels also use a set zero, called a datum. MLLW means Mean Lower Low Water, a coastal reference based on low tides. A height above one of these zeros is not the distance from the water surface to the bottom. Keep the station, time, unit and datum with a reading.
Units and temperature
ft means feet. Temperature labels distinguish air from water and Fahrenheit (°F) from Celsius (°C). A station reading describes that sensor’s location, not the temperature everywhere in the area.
Sources and calculated information
The National Weather Service (NWS) supplies weather forecasts. NOAA is the federal ocean and atmosphere agency; USGS is the U.S. Geological Survey. Sunrise, sunset and moon phase are calculated estimates, described beside their panels. Moon illumination is not a fishing score.
