Know which striped fish you are looking at
Sheepshead have a deep, compressed body, dark vertical bars and distinctive incisor-like front teeth. Young black drum can also show bars, so stripes alone are not a reliable identification. Black drum have chin barbels; compare several features rather than guessing from color.

What the fishing experience can involve
Sheepshead feed on hard-shelled prey and are associated with structure. For a guest, the important question is how the guide plans to present bait and manage a fish near that structure. Ask whether you will cast, lower a rig or use another presentation, and how the captain teaches the bite and retrieve.
Do not reach into a fish's mouth to inspect the teeth. Let the crew demonstrate handling and unhooking, keeping hands away from teeth and sharp spines. A species description is not handling training. Read hooking and landing for the general sequence of asking for help and preparing before a fish comes aboard.
Ask for a suitable inshore trip
